Your child is precious to you and precious to God. You want the very best for them, and so does God. You want them to make right choices in life, for themselves and for others. At a christening service ()or baptism – they are the same thing) we welcome them into God’s family and ask for his help as you make some big promises about bringing them up to reject what is wrong and seek what is right. It is a time to celebrate the wonder of a new life and recognise that we need God’s love and support to nurture our children towards adulthood.

Frequently Asked Questions about Baptism
Q. I have been thinking about having my baby Christened but am not sure how to go about it.
A. We have a special team of volunteers at St. Lawrence called the littlefish Baptism team who are here to help you make the first steps to joining the church and to guide you in planning a Christening for your baby. No previous experience required! Newcomers welcome! Just ring Karen Wright who would be delighted to help or come along to a Family Praise service 9.30am on every Sunday morning (apart from the 1st in the month) and collect a letter from a member of the Baptism team.
Q. I have seen the notices about Baptism in the village – what is the difference between a Baptism and a Christening?
A. It is the same thing.
Q. What will I expected to do if I want to have my baby baptised at St. Lawrence?
A. Like all Churches, we have a responsibility to ensure that you receive preparation for this important step you are taking. At St. Lawrence, this comes in the form of some informal and (hopefully!) fun preparation sessions run by the Baptism team – (all parents who have been in your position just a few years ago!) We do not dictate any specific requirements for you to start the process of Baptism – apart from a willingness to start to become part of our Church community. We are happy for you to start from where you are at now!
Q. But my “baby” is no longer a baby – I have left it rather late to get him/her Christened, haven’t I?
A. Not at all! Why not talk to the littlefish team and be reassured that we love to welcome and encourage children (and parents) of all ages to become members of our church.
Q. What does it cost to have a baby Baptised at St. Lawrence?
A. The preparation sessions and the services of the Vicar and use of the Church are all completely free. There is no charge if the baptism takes place during our regular Sunday service, however there are charges for verger and organist if the service is held at a different time. There are additional optional charges for personalised order of service or performance fees. For more specific information, please do not hesitate to call the Baptism team or Helen Campbell our Church Administrator
